Chine Colle refers to chinese rice-paper collage paired with linocut printing. I fell in love with using all sorts of beautiful papers to add color, texture and depth of mood to my linocuts. I began cutting away more and more linoleum to let the colors and patterns come through. After exhausting commercial colored rice papers,I embarked on creating my own papers with monoprint and gell printing. This opened up a whole new world of color and textutre in my prints. This also allowed me to use colors of my exact choosing. I have modified the Chine Colle process to add collage. The way that I do this is first, I think about color story for my image. Next, I print about 9 sheets of colored, textured papers to print on. For this part I have dicovered many wonderful papers to print on such as all rice papers, deli wrap, teabag paper, and random found papers. After that, I print my linocut image on to each paper. Lastly, I take those images and cut them up and collage them together to create an edition of seven. I look for ways to express the image in different contexts that portray a rich perspective of color, texture, and light. That means seven prints of the same image and each print will be unique in its color story and mood.
